# Roles & Access

The two Dispatch roles, what each one can see and do, and how they relate to DarcyIQ roles

Dispatch has two roles of its own: **Dispatch User** and **Dispatch Admin**. They're separate from your DarcyIQ organization role. Being a DarcyIQ admin doesn't make you a Dispatch Admin, and a Dispatch Admin doesn't need to be a DarcyIQ admin.

## The Roles

| Role               | Who it's for                               | What they can do                                                                                                                                                                            |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Dispatch User** | Anyone who calls models through Dispatch | Create and manage their own API keys, see their own allowance and usage, browse models and cookbooks, and run cost reports on their own spend |
| **Dispatch Admin** | Whoever runs Dispatch for the organization | Everything a User can do, plus every person and key in the organization, budgets and allowances, guardrails, model access, data residency, tags, provider keys, and organization-wide usage |

Each role includes everything below it, so a Dispatch Admin can always do what a Dispatch User can.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Limits belong to the person, not the key.** A Dispatch User can create as many keys as they need, but they all draw on the same allowance. Making a tenth key doesn't give anyone more to spend. Only a Dispatch Admin can change a person's allowance or guardrail, using **Change budget** on the [API Keys](/dispatch/use-dispatch/api-keys.md) page.
{% endhint %}

## Getting a Role

How someone gets Dispatch depends on whether they already have a DarcyIQ login:

* **New to DarcyIQ** — A Dispatch Admin invites them from the [Users](/dispatch/manage/users.md) page and picks their Dispatch role in the same step.
* **Already has a DarcyIQ login** — Dispatch is granted to them in the DarcyIQ Platform.

Each person uses a Dispatch seat, and seats are managed in the DarcyIQ Platform. If an invitation goes out but the seat is refused, check your organization's available seats there.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.darcyiq.com/dispatch/get-started/roles-and-access.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
